I am developing a little web page of sports facts and trivia, focussing mainly on Pittsburgh sports facts, polls and trivia. But will have other trivia polls and facts in the general sports world. And I added some not so interesting things about myself, like a bio page and etc. as you can see to the left. This home page is going to be our sports fact of the day page and opinion poll page. And since we're in baseball season, the first fact is going to be about The Pittsburgh Pirates. ENJOY!
The sports fact of the month will be change to "of the week" or, possibly,"of the day", when I am sure I'm getting more traffic on the site so I repeat as little as possible for those that do read this often.
SPORTS FACT OF THE MONTH!
The Pittsburgh Pirates were playing the Cincinnati Reds in a game on July 20, 1894. The game went into the 10th inning. In the bottom of the 10th with the game tied at 6, Cincinnati's Germany Smith into the left field seats. In those days, even though the ball went into the seats, the ball was still considered in play. When outfielder Elmer Smith tried to hop the fence and get the ball, he was tackled down by some big Cincinnati fans. Then centerfielder Jake Stenzel jumped the fence to get the ball, and when he got to the ball, he was held at gunpoint until Germany Smith had crossed the plate.
